Our Rural Studio Pilgrimages

In honor of the brilliant badass Samuel Mockbee, known to most as “Sambo”, the kids I decided to see every Rural Studio creation in the state of Alabama. It was a roamschooling goal set back in 2011- one which we relish and savor with all the excitement of an ongoing adventure.

Since Sambo’s intention was to build fantastic, sustainable homes for low-income Alabamians, many Rural Studio constructions are based in particular communities where jobs and money are more scarce than in the larger cities. So I’ve organized our pilgrimages according to the city. As you can see, we are not even close to being finished….
